Short answer: No, but...
If you're reading this, you've probably seen the Roblox news. If not, here it is in ten seconds: big YouTubers have shared stories about being groomed on Roblox, parents are worried, and Roblox is scrambling to add safety measures. This is horrible. It's the last thing you want to hear about a platform over 110 million kids use every day.
I'm Rafid Hoda. I've been teaching kids coding since 2017… but I was once a kid myself. Born in 1991, I basically grew up on the Internet. When I was 9, I was hanging out in online communities. And the same problems existed back then: strangers contacting kids, unsafe conversations, parents who didn't know what was going on.
The truth is: the Internet has never been "safe." Asking if Roblox is safe is like asking if the Internet is safe. The answer is no — and it always has been. What's changed is scale. Roblox isn't a small community anymore. It's massive.
So what do we do as parents? Some say: no Roblox. I completely respect that. But for many kids, Roblox today is what WhatsApp or Instagram is for us. It's where they hang out and create. Taking it away isn't always realistic.
That's why I believe the solution isn't banning everything, but teaching kids how to navigate safely. Use the controls you have. Disable chat if you want. Talk openly about what's safe to share. Be present. It doesn't make Roblox perfect, but it makes it safer.
And here's the part I love: Roblox Studio is an incredible teaching tool. Kids feel at home there. Their faces light up the moment you mention Roblox. And through Studio, they can learn programming, creativity, collaboration — skills they'll need for life.
That's why at our Roblox Camp this høstferie, we'll build games in Studio, make YouTube videos about them, and talk honestly about online dangers and how to stay safe. All chat is disabled, everything is monitored, and kids won't have contact with strangers.
Yes, this is the part where I tell you to sign your kid up. But even if you don't, please do this one thing: go into Roblox settings and turn off chat. That one click makes a huge difference.
